Hello everyone,

How are you enjoying Munich during the Christmas Markets time? I like that it gets so lively but I don’t enjoy the long queues to order food& drinks and the hustle to find a place to eat/drink them. That takes a bit of the fun away for me, but well, every good thing has a downside so it is okay.

Talking about the Christmas Markets, there are two ones, which start and end this week: Werksviertel Christmas Market and Blutenburg Christmas Market. So you can add these to your list this weekend.  For planning your visits, to other Christmas markets, you can have a look at this blog post.

Now that we are over with our “Christmas markets” section, here is what else is up in Munich this weekend:


Friday 17:00: Lighting up the Little House Laterns

A very special thing will happen today (Friday) at 17:00 at Blutenburg Castle (yes there is a castle in Munich!). Handmade lanterns in the shape of little houses will be lit and put to the lake. The sail of little lights in the lake is a must see they say (source: muenchen.de). Read more.

Friday 20:30 – Saturday 00:30: Ta Mourmourakia Concert

Ta Mourmourakia, Greek Rembetiko band from Munich will be playing live this Friday night at Stragula Realwirtschaft and the entrance is free. Stragula Realwirtschaft is at Bergmannstr. 66. For more information and updates, check the Facebook event.


Saturday – Sunday: Historical Steam Train Ride 

If you want to have an old-time experience, this might be for you. A historical steam train from 1939 will be on the rails this weekend. Another one from 1936 will also work on Sunday. The 1-hour ride will start at Ostbahnhof and there will be 4 rides per day:  at 10:00, 11:30, 13:30 and 15:00.  Read more.

Saturday 12:00 – 21:00: SantaCon

Dress Up your Santa Costume and join the parade! Go around the city all day, spread the love and keep the noses red by drinking at every stop. Read more.

Saturday 17:00 – 23:30: Night Flea Market

This is the night flea market at Bussi Bussi Bavaria, Theresienhöhe 7. You can walk around or buy a few things from the flea market, enjoy the night with a beer and live music or indulge in snacks. Entrance costs 3 Euro.

Saturday 19:30 – 22:30 Shavez Concert

The description of this event says it all: “Música Latina, alegre que te mueve y deja fluir todos tus liquidos!”(Joyful Latin music that makes you move and lets your liquids flow!) Who can say no to that? Shavez will play at the Marchenbazar on Saturday between 7:30 pm and 10:30 pm.  See his very friendly and energetic invitation at the Facebook event. Marchenbazar is at Tumblingerstr. 29 and the entrance is free.


Sunday 12:00-17:00: Paxplatz Flea Market

This is a flea market for clothes which has free entrance and serves drinks at the bar. It takes place at Das Provisorium – Lindwurmstr. 37 between 12:00 – 17:00. For updates, check the Facebook event.

Sunday 15:00 – 16:30: Krampus Run

Beware! It is Krampus time! The scary, hairy, evil beasts the Krampus will run in the Christmas Market at Marienplatz. Read more.

Sunday 16:00-18:30: ESME Winter Concert

ESME is the English Speaking Music Ensembles and they will give a big winter concert this Saturday at the Künstlerhaus, Lenbachplatz 8 with the big band, orchestra, and singers. There are tickets in three categories with prices € 18, € 14 and € 8 each.  You can see the concert program and but the tickets on this page.

Sunday 18:15 – 19:15: Pop Up Yoga @ Egyptian Museum

Yoga lesson at the Egyptian Museum! The lesson costs 15 euro the entrance to the museum is included in the price. Do not forget to bring your own mat. Send an email to popupyogamuc@gmail.com to register.

Sunday 19:00: Magic Show at Werksviertel Christmas Market

There is a magic show at Werksviertel Christmas Market which is free of charge but you need to register in advance to reserve your seat. There were still places while this post was being written so hurry up and reserve your place online.

Sunday 19:00 – 22:00: Storytellers Night

A night of storytelling, for adults, in English! This time it is Christmas Special of true stories told by people from all over the world who have experienced them first hand. There will also be a musical act. It takes place at Kooks Bar, Geyerstr. 18. There is an entrance fee of 5 Euro but there is also free pizza included.
