What’s Up in Munich this weekend 23 – 25 March

Hello everyone,

I hear that most of you are sick and tired of the snow and the cold weather. I am also a bit bored of it. But it seems that the weather is getting a bit better this weekend, there will be sun and temperatures will go up to 10 degrees.

The list of the events are quite long. There are especially various music events this weekend. Have a look here:

Friday – Sunday: Friday – Sunday: Last 3 Days of Starkbierfest at Nockherberg

Last 3 days of the Starkbierfest at Nockherberg. Nockherberg might remind you of the Oktoberfest because people go there dressed up in dirndl or Lederhosen, there is live music and drinks are served in Maß (1L). At the entrance to the festival you will pay 12,90€; 2€ for entrance fee and 10,90€ for one Maß Starkbier, Helles, Radler or alcohol free drink.
The opening times of the festival:
Friday: 14:00 – 23:00 (music starting at 16:00)
Saturday & Sunday: 11:00 – 23:00 (music starts at 14:00)

Friday – Sunday: Wine Munich

Wine fair in the city center. You get to taste 900 wines with your ticket which costs 10 Euro online and 13 Euro at the door. The opening times are as follows:
Friday 13:00 – 19:00
Saturday 12:00 – 19:00
Sunday 12:00 – 18:00

18:00 – 23:00: Critical Mass March 2018

Critical mass is a street protest to defend the equality of bikes with the motor vehicles in the traffic. It is disorganised, anarchic and has no reponsibles. Everybody can join. The meeting is at 18:00 at Max-Joseph-Platz in front of the opera and you start pedalling at 18:30. The group will take the late comers at 8 from the feet of Bavaria.

19:00 – 21:00: Weekly Eye Contact

This event is about making eye contact with a stranger for an extended time. No talking, no gestures, just looking in the eyes. According to the organisers it is really a powerful experience
“During the eye contact, anything can happen. From emotions to thoughts, to wonderful connections and more. Every person has different experiences, yet the common denominator is that it allows you to connect with yourself and to others. It is an opportunity to be more present, to gain stability, raise your mood and to improve your confidence. Many also make good friends and the longer you do it, the more you get out of it.”

19:00 – 22:00: OTT by Ostbahnhof

Friday event at the cool location Container Collective. The idea is simple, drink wine and listen to music. The wines are from Bernhard Ott Winery. There are also beer sorts and coacktails. For more information, check the Facebook event.

20:00 – 23:55: Klimt EP Release @ Lost Weekend

This is the album release party of Klimt. There will also be display of video art and DJ performance. Doors open at 20:00 and the event starts at 21:00. The event takes place at the Lost Weekend, Schellingstr. 3 and the entrance costs 7 Euro. Check the Facebook event for more information.

20:30 – 23:59: Westend Jam

The program starts with the performance of the house band and then you can jam with the other musicians or just enjoy the performances. It takes place at Kulturkeller d’Schanthalerhoh’, Westendstr. 76. The entrance costs 3 €. For more information and updates, check the Facebook event.

21:00 – 23:59: KARAOKE, YOU!

“Come sing your blues away at The Lovelace’s Karaoke Session and own the mic for a night!
Tanya Naughton, the best Karaoke host in town will help you with choosing the right song and give you friendly background support if needed!” The event takes place at Studio 2 on the third floor of The Lovelace – A Hotel Happening Kardinal-Faulhaber-Straße 1. 12:00 – 23:59: Astronomy Day

As part of the Astronomy Day in Germany, there are special programs at the Bavarian Public Observatory Munich and the Deutsches Museum.
Bavarian Public Observatory Munich offers planetarium presentations, guided tours and a big bazaar. During the day, you will have the chance to observe the gas explosions of the sun and during the night you can observe the Moon and Venus first, Mars and Jupiter later, all with the telescope. Bavarian Public Observatory Munich is at Rosenheimer Str. 145h. For more information about the program, check the website of the observatory.

Deutsches Museum offers presenations of 30-40 minutes in the “Energieteknik” room from 12:30 onwards about the stars. If the sky is clear, you can check the sun with the special telescope in the east observatory ( between 12:00 – 16:45) and west observatory (Between 12:00 – 16:00).There is a talk in English called Exoplanets: Planets outside our solar system at 15:30 by Dr. Jeroen de Jong. 12:00 – 16:00: Arepa Soul Kitchen – Brunch im Café Stockholm

Cafe Stockholm invites us all to a Venezuelan brunch with Arepas and empanadas. There will be also music from Vinyl records. Cafe Stockholm is at Lämmerstraße 6. Check the Facebook event for more information.

12:00 – 20:00: Fashion Session

Fashion Session is the second hand market for fashion where good kept items of brands and designers will be sold. The event takes place at The Lovelace – A Hotel Happening Kardinal-Faulhaber-Straße 1. For more information, check the Facebook event.

17:00 – 23:59: Midnightbazar Night Flea Market and Street Food at Reithalle

Second-hand shopping at night with music and drinks at Reithalle, Heßstraße 132. Entrance costs 3 Euro. For more information, check the Facebook event.

17:30 – 19:00: Mind and Meditation Workshop

1 hour free workshop of breathing techniques and Meditation. Register on the website of The Art of Living to attend. Check the Facebook event for more information.

18:15 – 19:40: Russian Documentary “Winter, Go Away!”

The chronicle of winter of 2011/2012 with the people who create the political climate and the people who do not like it. People, faces, talks, protests, victories and defeats in the run up of the election of the president. Lively camera, lively characters..Sometimes humorous but mostly sad. The documentary is in Russian with English Subtitles. It will be screened at Werkstattkino, Fraunhoferstr. 9.

19:00 – 23:59  onwards: Schick&Schwarz | AfterWorkTram

A party in the tram. The party tram will travel around the city for 5 hours and the passengers can dance, drink and have fun while sightseeing! The tram takes of at 19:00 from Lenbachplatz Tram station. The price is 12 Euro per person. Register on the website of the event.

19:00 – 23:59: Westend Spring Battle

The battle of four bands from punk and post rock to Rock and Folk. It takes place at Kulturkeller d’Schwanthalerhöh’, Westendstraße 76. For more information, check the Facebook event.

19:45 – 23:00 Lightning Talks Munich

Lightning Talks is like a TED event where the speakers hold a talk of 5 minutes. But here, you also get to network with the speakers and other participants. The event takes place at Jugendtreff M10City, Maßmannstraße 10. For more information, check the Facebook event.

20:00 -23 :59: Earth Hour and Concert of The Prowlers

The Earth Hour will be celebrated with an introductory speech, turning off the lights and lighting up the candles. There will be an unplugged concert of The Prowlers by the candle light. After 9:30 the after party will start again with The Prowlers. The event takes place at the Lost Weekend, Schellingstr. 3 and the entrance is free. Check the Facebook event for more information.

21:00 onwards: Balkan Days Closing Concert

Salon Balkon Duet will play Balkan folk songs and turn the venue into a Dernek (a wild party)
The event will take place at Halle 3 of Einstein Kultur, Einsteinstr, 42 and The ticket costs 10 Euro. For more information check the page of the event.

22:00 – 01:00 (next day): Midnight Sauna @Müller´sches Volksbad

Beware: Nudity! (If you are not comfortable with nudity, avoid the saunas in Munich because nudity is a must) The Volksbad will be open on Saturday night for a bath experience like Romans. The aromatic steams at sauna will begin at 22, after 23 you will be able to use the “Damenhalle” (women’s hall will be opened to every midnight sauna guest) and swim without a bathing suit. As a break between sauna sequences you can take a break at the aqua floating bath. You can access the event with a normal Müller´aches Volksbad entrance fee, which is 12,90 Euro after 20:00. Müller’sches Volksbad is at Rosenheimer Straße 1

11:00 – 17:00: Records and CD Exchange

If you are into Vinyl records and CDs, check the Records and CD Exchange at Tonhalle, Grafingerstr. 6. Entrance costs 4 Euro.

18:00 – 22:00: Sunday Sessions – Gypsy Jazz with Monaco Swing Trio

Enjoy your Sunday listening to and maybe dancing to the music of Monaco Swing Ensemble! The band will play live at Lost Weekend, Schellingstr. 3. The entrance costs 3 Euro. Check the Facebook event for more information.

19:00 – 22:00: Nuit Blanche – Live im Salon Irkutsk

Another live session on Sunday is at Salon Irkutsk which celebrates its 7th birthday. Nuit Blanche a duo of vocal and guitar will perform. Salon Irkutsk is at Isabellastr. 4. For more information, check the Facebook event.

20:30 – onwards: Balkan Lounge goes Psychedelic

Stonebridge, an alternative rock band from Zagreb will play at 21:00. There will be the performance of DJane Tijana Sevo aka subTribeline starting from 22:30. The event takes place at Bürgerhaus Glockenbachwerkstatt, Blumenstr. 7.  Check the Facebook event for more information.

On Sunday daylight saving time will start, clocks will be turned forward by 1 hours. (If it is 2, it will be 3). Most of your devices will update the time automatically but double check!
