What’s Up in Munich this weekend 27 – 29 April 2018

Hello everyone,

This weekend is a cool one. First of all there is the Long Night of Music, where you can discover new locations  and neighbourhoods of Munich and enjoy various music performances till the early morning. But that is not all, there are the annual bike flea market, the city fair Auer Dult and of course the Frühlingsfest is still going on. Check the events of the weekend to have a great one!

Friday-Sunday: Frühlingsfest

The little Oktoberfest “Frühlingsfest” continues. A special event of the festival will be the fireworks which will take place this Friday at 22:00. In the festival there are two big tents, one Weissbiergarten and many fun rides. It is just like the Oktoberfest, but less tents and less tourists and also Beer costs 9,80 Euro, 1 euro cheaper than Oktoberfest:) It takes place on Theresienwiese, where Oktoberfest takes place. It will continue till 6th of May. Enjoy as long as you can!

Friday – Sunday 16:00 – 22:00: Art Exhibition The Empire -Air Pavillon
In Max-Joseph-Platz, there is something strange that does not belong there. A Pavillon Container that is actually an art exhibition. It is the art work „The Empire-Air Pavillon” by Darren Cullen. The artist wants to remind us that the companies which are connected with holidays are actually the ones that are producing the guns. It is an engaging exhibition where you can touch things and play around. You can visit it till Sunday between 16:00 -22:00 for free.
19:00 – 21:00: Weekly Eye Contact

This event is about making eye contact with a stranger for an extended time. No talking, no gestures, just looking in the eyes. According to the organisers it is really a powerful experience.“During the eye contact, anything can happen. From emotions to thoughts, to wonderful connections and more. Every person has different experiences, yet the common denominator is that it allows you to connect with yourself and to others. It is an opportunity to be more present, to gain stability, raise your mood and to improve your confidence. Many also make good friends and the longer you do it, the more you get out of it.”
The event takes place at KantineKiosk Akademiestraße 2-4. Entrance costs 3 EUR. For more information, check the Facebook event.

20:00 – till the morning: Vor dem Blitz

Pinakothek Moderne will be open at night for the current exhibition “Paul Klee. Konstruktion des Geheimnisses” and there will be a Lounge with DJ set where you can chill and organise your thoughts about the exhibition. The party will continue in the BLITZ Club. With the ticket that costs 15 Euro you can visit the exhibition and the club. For more information, check the Facebook event.

22:00 – Saturday 02:00: Jam Session at Kongress Bar

Jam Session with various musicians and various genres, probably more jazz soul and funk. Grab a drink and enjoy the music. KongressBar is at Theresienhöhe 15. For more information, check the Facebook event.

10:00 – 16:00: Munich Bike Flea Market

If you want to buy a bike, this is the greatest opportunity. You can select from 1000 second hand bikes. If you don’t find anything there, the Lost and Found office of Munich is organising an auction between 13:00 and 16:00. You can check the bikes already at 11:30 – 12:30 to decide for which to give an offer at the auction. Both events take place at Zenith, Lilienthalallee 29. Saturday – Sunday 10:00 – 20:00: Auer Dult

Auer Dult, the city fair, famous for its porcelain items is opening this Saturday with the presence of the Munich Mayor Josef Schmid and with the concert Brass Band Unterbrunn. In Auer Dult, there are a lot of stands to buy curiosities, to eat, to drink and a few rides for amusement. You can visit it at Mariahilfplatz. The stands are open between 10: 00 -20:00. The festival continues till 6th of May.

Saturday 10:00 – 16:00: BaroloBrunello Monaco -spring edition

Wine lovers, you can go crazy! Here is a wine tasting event in Eataly with 30 Wine producers from Italy. On average there will be 3 wines from each producer so you can taste up to 100 wines! The entrance costs 20 Euro and you can buy the tickets online or at Eataly. Eataly is at Blumenstraße 4. For more information, check the Facebook event.

11:00 – 16:00: De’Gwandler Charity Fest im Giesinger Bräu

In this event there will be grill, Beer of Giesinger Bräu and the live music of Besserwisser Blues Band. The money collected at the event will go to the non profit organisations Bellevue di Monaco and Condrops. Join the event, have fun and do something good for the people who need support. 15:00 – 19:00: From Poland through the Balkans to Damascus

This is an event organised by Potpourri Muenchen which aims to bring different cultures together through cooking, eating and getting know each other. Sofia, Aliya and Alicia will take the participants on a culinary journey to their home countries Bulgaria, Poland and Syria. Get ready for a fusion dinner at it’s best: Barszcz, Frikeh with (or without) minced meat, nuts and peas, feta-stuffed pepper and Mlechna Banica, sweet puff pastry. To attend register via email (potpourrimuenchen @ and tell your name, where you are from and whether you’re vegetarian or have any food intolerance. Participation is free, but you can give donations. 20:00 – Sunday 03:00: Long Night of Music

Long Night of Music is an annual event which turns the city into a big music festival. There will be 400 concerts in 100 locations. There are shuttle busses working between the locations. Tickets cost 15 Euro and can be bought at Odeonplatz after 13 or at the concert locations. Check out the website of the event to plan your night.

10:00 – 17:00: Springfestival at Munich Animal Shelter

Animal lovers, you can support the animals at the animal shelter by joining this festival. The money collected in the festival will go to the association to support animals. You can also spend time with the animals at the shelter while you are there. The animal shelter (Tierheim München) is at Riemer Strasse 270. For more information, check the Facebook event.

14:00 – 19:00: Krims & Krams Flea Market in Bahnwärter Thiel

This is an underground flea market with good mood and good music. You can find fashion items, costumes, props, artworks and interesting stuff to buy or have a look at or just spend time there dancing or hanging out with cool people. The event takes place on Tumblinger Str. 29. For more information, check the Facebook event.

19:30 – 22:30: Munich English Comedy Night

English Comedy Night with comedian Jack Holmes as part of his European Tour. He is “honest, vicious, and playful, his act mixes brutal self-deprecation with bewilderment and frustration at the world around him, creating a show every bit as heartwarming and endearing as it is gut wrenchingly hilarious” says the event. The event takes place at Shamrock Munich, Trautenwolfstraße 6, The tickets cost 10€ at the location, 11.01€ online.  Check the Facebook event for more information.
